Competitive Online Soccer Game – Gameplay & Live Commentary
This video captures my experience playing a fast-paced, chaotic 3v3 soccer-style game—filled with trick shots, impossible saves, unexpected glitches, and real-time reactions. But this isn’t just about highlights. It’s a moment-to-moment commentary on learning mechanics, mastering timing, and reacting live to both brilliant plays and total disasters.
I recorded and edited the video with a focus on immersion, emphasizing the goalkeeper mechanics and tactical gameplay while injecting humor through spontaneous commentary. The final piece reflects how I approach content with authenticity, technical depth, and a designer’s eye for balance between entertainment and insight.
This video came from a spontaneous session where I wanted to test the game's mechanics—especially the unique goalkeeper controls and the team dynamics in tight matches. My commentary evolved naturally, responding to each play and teammate interaction. The concept became clear mid-recording: showcase the intensity and skill of the game, while reacting as a player who’s learning and adapting in real time.
The title “I Was Good at Football Once” sets a playful tone, foreshadowing the highs and lows of the match. The thumbnail references classic sports game aesthetics while visually representing action, intensity, and player personality.
In addition to the full-length episode, I also created a short-form edit designed specifically for platforms like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok.
This Short captures a weird, unexpected moment during the game—where the physics engine lets go of reality and chaos takes over. The glitch wasn’t planned, but it was too funny not to highlight.
I created the Short as a platform-native edit, optimized for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Reels, using:
- Quick cuts and zooms for comedic buildup
- A clean 30-second structure: setup → payoff → punchline
- A focus on retention-first framing without relying on context from the full video
Why It Matters:
This Short is a great example of how I handle reactive storytelling and how I turn spontaneous moments into tightly edited, shareable media. It shows my ability to shift gears from long-form narrative to punchy, platform-specific clips—while maintaining tone, clarity, and humor.
This project sharpened my ability to work with improvised content—finding narrative arcs in real-time and shaping them through editing. I also deepened my approach to timing and pacing, especially in moments where skill mechanics meet personal reaction.
I walked away with a better understanding of:
- How player feedback loops affect gameplay rhythm
- How to pace unscripted voice commentary without losing flow
- How visual and audio edits can enhance live humor without artificial effects
